Gettysburg 5 Ounce Uncirculated Collector’s Coin
Each year, the US Mint produces coins in the America the Beautiful series that depict five different locations of national beauty and importance to the nation.
The first of these in 2011 was the Gettysburg National Military Park, and the Mint has now produced the uncirculated America the Beautiful 5 ounce Gettysburg silver coin. This is a collector version of the bullion coin released earlier this year, and it features the same designs on the obverse, and reverse, of the circulating America the Beautiful Gettysburg Qaurters.
The obverse benefits from the 1932 portrait of George Washington by John Flanagan, and the reverse features a depiction of the famous 72nd Pennsylvania Infantry Monument which is located within the park on the battle line of the Union Army at Cemetery Ridge.
The coins contain five ounces of fine .999 silver, and are produced in an uncirculated finish. Minted at Philadelphia, the coins in the issue – limited to a 35,000 mintage – will all be stamped with the ‘P’ mint-mark. The coin itself measures three inches in diameter, and is encapsulated and then set in an outer display box, and accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity.
It will become available to purchase from 22nd September at 12 noon Eastern Time, with a limit per household of 5 coins. This limit will be re-evaluated on a weekly basis, and may be extended, adjusted, or removed according to demand.
The purchase price has been set at $279.95, and further details are available from the US Mint website, www.usmint.gov. The purchase price is subject to shipping fees, which is set at $4.95 per coin for domestic customers.
